Step Three - Family Selection Process

1. Application

Applications are taken in September. Print out an application here or pick one up at the Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity office at 121 N. First St. Mitchell. Fill out the application and return it to the Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity office.

2. Application Review

The Family Selection Team reviews all applications to determine eligibility.

3. Ability to Pay Approved

A credit report is obtained. And a family's ability to pay a mortgage is reviewed. If you meet the ability to pay criteria, you will go to the next step.

4. Home Visits

Members of the Family Selection Team interview your family in your current home. The volunteers try to verify that your family needs affordable housing and that your family is willing to partner with Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity.

5. Selection Meeting

The Family Selection Team meets to decide which families meet all the criteria. The team makes recommendations to the Board of Directors of Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity. The Board votes to accept the new partner family.

If selected, a family support advocate will be assigned to the family to guide them in the journey to home ownership.
